Secret Walls x Chevy @ SXSW

2012 kicked off with a bang, Chevrolet invited us to Austin in Texas to collaborate on the “Chevy Sound Garage” project @SXSW. In our entire 6 years of existence this was by far the most fun and creative adventure yet!

It all started in Detroit, the birth town of General Motors and the Chevy brand. Secret Walls selected 8 great artists from all over the globe, and brought them together in the “BIG D” for a 2 nights of intros, bar crawls and good times. Along the way we painted walls, met some strange locals and drove the artists around town showing them the amazing sights this exciting city has to offer.

Once all the fun and games were out of the way, we jumped into the convoy of 4 black and white Chevy suburbans and headed south on the 1500 mile journey through the notorious tornado alley to Austin, with the aim of reaching the battle zone in 2 days.

This road trip was an experience not to forget. We witnessed so many strange but beautiful sites while cruising through the spine of North America, cowboys, rednecks and the eery Mountains of Arkansas to name a few.

We documented every moment on film. The mayhem can now be viewed on our youtube channel… Youtube channel – so check it out and leave your comments.

Once we arrived in Austin (10 hours behind schedule) – we executed 4 days of mini battles within the dedicated Chevy space – working with the big bands on show, we pulled in the crowds and did our bit to keep them all entertained, all topped off by Reeps One blowing the crowd away with his heavy baselines!

SXSW is something else! It’s certainly not your usual gig – A better description would be to call it a full city takeover with the worlds best musical talent playing in local bars, restaurants and pop up stages. It’s an assault on the senses and you need to be in 10 places at once to actually cover all the good stuff. We were completely spoilt for choice, but of course that’s half the fun!

All the Secret Walls brought their A game, battling hard to deliver one of the strongest tournaments in history, resulting in one of the closest finals ever! Make sure you catch the videos to reveal the highlights and results.

After a long blurry week and a great sunny festival experience, we all jumped back in the Chevys and headed back to Detroit. This time we had to complete the trip in 24hrs for everyone to make their flights home… This is a story for another day.

Huge thanks to all that supported us along the way, Chevy for providing the ideal transport, the random folk who helped us in times of need, and most importantly all the artists and crew that added the magic and made it such a fantastic and memorable trip.

Artists that featured in this project – Jon Burgerman, Danleo, Bridge Stehli, Fel300ft, Kev Bee, Lamour Supreme, Alfa, Smug & Reeps One the human sleepboxer!!
