Secret Walls x Bournemouth | Semi Final: Mr Christa vs Connor Pembroke AND Li7e Alternative vs Krishna Malla
Friday 8th March saw Secret Walls return to the Winchester in Bournemouth (winner of the 2012 Best Bar None awards and the proud home of local underground culture). With all first-round events out the way, it was time for the semi-finals, and as we couldn’t wait any longer to release the grand finalists, merged both battles into one event!
The second Secret Walls x New Orleans to be held at The Big Top took place on on February 16th 2013, seeing new talent VRS Family come up to battle against MARYnMIKA against a back drop of art work from local street artists. MARYnMIKA came top in the crowd vote, winning the battle
Music on the night was provided by Lyriqs da Lyraciss, Brother Electric and Stefan Henry with Kidd Fresh providing the MC skills on the night.

Round 4 saw 2 new artists enter the Bournemouth tournament, Connor Pembroke and Titillate & Create, each representing two very different areas of creativity. Connor a young up-and-coming urban artist from Bournemouth took on the slightly more experienced contemporary illustration graduate Titillate & Create. We knew this would be an interesting battle from the start and neither disappointed.
Nicole Burt (Titillate & Create) threw her initial marks up in record breaking time, utilising the entire space of the board very well with her central female protagonist and chess pieces, while Connor started off focusing his detail on the tag running across what later became a train escaping a large gaping mouth. Some great turntablism from Dafu and Deceptakut kept the crowd bouncing, and before the battle was over both artists had a Winch-full of onlookers taking in their every move.
This months judges were Mirek Lucan, Bournemouth based artist, designer and illustrator who will soon be making his mark at our future events, along with Yoko Exley, Restaurant owner and avid Secret Walls x Bournemouth supporter. Both judges gave their nods towards Connor while the crowd screamed their point Nicole’s way with a roof shattering 108.2 db. Which put Connor through to the Semi finals on the 8th March.
Your Niece, D- Tox, and Russla covered the aftermath with some epic glitch, jungle and dnb sets, and large servings of fun were had till the early hours.
Next month see’s both Semi final battles consecutively, with a very exciting line up featuring Hong Kong Ping Pong, Roast Beatz, Neffa T, Cursa and Ca:Ro. hosted by Manic and Double L, with the vault hosted by CountryMan Soundsystem.
NEXT MONTH @ SW x Bournemouth:
MR CHRISTA vs CONNOR PEMBROKE
LI7E ALTERNATIVE vs KRISHNA MALLA
SW x BMTH
January 12th saw the first installment of Secret Walls x New Orleans battles at The Big Top (1638 Clio St New Orleans LA 70130). Trace One went head to head with Murky with Murky coming out victorious and winning the first ever Secret Walls x New Orleans
Live music was provided by Bastard Sons of Marvin Hersch whilst a fundraiser art sale for Parisite DIY Skate Park was curated by Inkwell Press Art featuring artwork by Murky, Trace one, Meek, Billy Bracey, Ser, Ern.
Steve is big local graffer who put up a piece that struck some recognition from his crew with elements of his style and tags, while Krishna tried to make use of a pun that signified he would be out in this round.
Steve focused on some strong clean lines, while Krishna took the more loose approach of adding shade and texture to try and make it look 3D. Such a good turn out and support shown from everyone. Music provided by DJ’s KURSA, SHAMANIC TECHNOLOGY, ROAST BEATZ, STUFF YA DISCO, and NEFFA T kept people moving till 5am. All hosted by the legendary SKYDRO.

Thursday 13th saw a battle between two artists who had never met each other before, but both equally aware of the other: Christa and Fur Fur.
Christa worked quickly throwing up servings of a furry menu, while fur fur lay down a ghoulish graveyard and grim reaper. The crowd vote was a little confusing due to the mc mixing up his rights and lefts, but both judges (artists and owners of Scribe tattoo parlour) voted for Christa, and offered him a job after the battle!!
Last week, The Book Club in Shoreditch bought together the 4 semi finalists from the recent competition we ran with Umbro and Footlocker (you can view the campaign vid here). Hosting the night was Reeps One on the mic, with the Get Some crew behind the decks. Of course, the special guest on the night was Lethal Bizzle who had the crowd going crazy with his energy.
